Chances are by now you have seen the many marketing campaigns around various food products that insist you will “loose weight if you just eat this food”. Or you if you “start taking this supplement then you will burn all your excess fat“. The most common theory I hear is “eat less carbohydrates and more protein to be thin”.
Don’t worry, this post is not going to be a science lesson about food groups, nor am I going to give you the magic answer to your problems; truth is everyone actually needs balance and moderation in their diets, no cutting out food groups or throwing chemical based tablets down your throat. I actually am just going to give you some of my own natural remedies to keep your metabolism high, while still feeling healthy and full of energy.
Coffee… The controversy of caffeine and whether the good out weighs the bad.
Here, I find myself in the majority percentage of the world’s population, I drink coffee everyday during the week. The key to effectiveness with caffeine is moderation, one or two cups of black coffee a day is known to speed up metabolism, also to aid athletic performance if drunk before a work out. Unfortunately; caffeine addiction is very common, often causing anxiety, insomnia, and the many health problems that occur from an artificially increased heart rate. Keep your consumption under control and try and have at least a day of not drinking coffee during a 7 day week, for me that means none over the weekend so I start Monday fresh.
Apples… An apple a day really does keep the doctor away.
As with all fruits, apples have amazing properties that we are often unaware of, we eat them because they taste ok and we know they are better for us than munching down a chocolate bar mid-morning. In fact, apples are one of the best fat loss aids, as well as providing our bodies with many essential vitamins and minerals. Apples not only help to suppress your appetite, they are one of the richest sources of soluble fibre available. Research on apples continues, as properties similar to that of the metabolism booster, green tea, are rumoured to exist within these marvels of nature.
Green Tea… The truth behind the legend.
Drinking enough green tea is proven to induce thermogenesis and stimulate fat oxidation, consuming enough will boosting the metabolic rate 4% without increasing the heart rate. In English, this means Green Tea is a fantastic aid to fat loss and makes your hot water taste better. It is also said to have properties that lower risk of heart disease and certain types of cancer, so I think it’s time to switch tea bags ladies!
Chicken Breast… The lean meat option.
Low in fat and high in protein, iron and zinc. Eat regularly as the meat in your meal, your body will feel the benefits. Add cayenne pepper to spice it up, also increasing your vitamin and mineral intake to new levels. With this option you really will notice the difference.
Broccoli… The super food of all green vegetables.
When buying, make sure your broccoli is rich green and don’t over book or boil the vegetable, you will loose all it’s great properties. Broccolli contains no fat, loads of fibre, cancer fighting chemicals called indoles, carotene, vitamin C and calcium.
Oats… Not just another breakfast cereal.
Oats are not only carbohydrates, they are high in fibre and even contain protein too. Studies recently show adding oats to a healthy diet aids fat loss, as well as providing a great substitute to your morning cereal. Eat them with anything, at any time, anywhere. Be ware when purchasing, many oats are ready made with dried milk and sugar; make sure you buy pure oats when no hidden extras inside!
I believe making small changes to your lifestyle, is the answer to creating a big change in your life. Try different food ideas and make a few swaps to your usual routine, see what happens. Go for natural foods, inside of self-proclaimed “healthy” foods, and always read the label.
